Isolation by Paula Dunn….

These images remind us that even on this crowded isle, isolation is possible, for many it is desirable at least as a temporary state, and as this collection shows it can be found in places not too far from where we stand now, the places where we lead our daily lives.
Against such natural settings the human condition is most tellingly contrasted. Through these paintings Paula attempts to illustrate how, what are often seemingly contradictory emotions can be inspired by images of isolation: peace and embattlement; concern and withdrawal; vulnerability and resistance; loneliness yet envelopment. (extract from artist statement)
‘Isolation’ is in effect a powerful tour for some of the UK’s most isolated and also most beautiful locations. Paula’s paintings, oil on canvas, capture not only the stunning topography of the locations but also the weather conditions so unique to this country. Paula says “I have also come to realize that in my work of representing landscapes the influence of the weather on the image cannot be overstated: the primacy of light and how it falls and shifts across the subject, and in doing so, the way this changes how we view the subject, is one of the most essential elements of what I am trying to capture.”
The subjects of the exhibition include the Yorkshire Dales, the Lake District and Scotland, areas known for their wild beauty and tempestuous atmosphere. Paula’s paintings use a range of techniques such as impasto, the use of palette knives, the application of glazes as well as rich, dramatic colours and will be available as originals (sizes ranging from 30x30cm to 100x100cm+) and limited edition prints.

Finally on the 5th September Paula Dunns exhibition ‘Isolation’ landed at the gallery and the opening night was one of our best, we even ran out of wine glasses at one point. Thank you to all that came and especially Paula who looked pretty tired at the end of the night.

We sold allot of work on the opening night but I have managed to talk buyers into letting me keep hold of most of it until at least the end of this month so if you haven’t been it its well worth a look. Also as well as some stunning original work still available to buy there are some beautiful framed large prints for sale in the gallery, we hope to see you in the gallery soon. Watch this space for the Christmas show.
